Aims
"Saving the
DNA and the viable cells of the world's endangered animals"
The Frozen Ark has seven major aims:
To promote the creation of centres worldwide for conserving viable cells, DNA and RNA from endangered animals.
To develop the best methods of collecting samples from the different animal groups.
To construct a global database of preserved materials from endangered species already held in these centres, and of the species that need to be collected.
To give priority to sampling the species in greatest danger of extinction.
To establish a panel of experts for each major animal group to oversee its sampling.
To provide a source of material to combat the loss of diversity in conservation programmes.
To provide resources of material for scientific research, for the benefit of humanity and the advancement of knowledge.
The Frozen Ark aims to fulfill all these remits as part of its future mission. |
