Your help is essential to us

Saving the DNA and the viable cells of the world's endangered animals

A perfect Christmas gift!

Donate £450 and you sponsor the DNA of one animal for the future. £600 keeps living cells which could allow future resurrection of the species. For either of these you will receive a personalised PDF certificate with the dedication of your choice and the name of the species for the sample you are sponsoring.

Please donate by the 'Just Giving' button below and fill out your desired dedication in the message box at the end of the payment process.

Help us save the DNA and cells from endangered species. You really can make a difference to our work. Even the smallest donation is very important.

A larger contribution of £450 ($650) would enable us to store the DNA of one endangered species for the long term, and each £600 (£1000) would allow us to preserve its viable cells.

A single donation of £6,000,000 or US$10,000,000 would allow the Frozen Ark Project to survive forever! <\p>

You can pay by card through the Justgiving charity site, by cheque, or by bank transfer.

Donors from the United Kingdom

We are a charity, and so we can claim any income tax you have paid on donations back from the Inland Revenue. The simplest way of doing this is paying through the 'Just Giving' site below and selecting the Gift Aid option.

Donating by Cheque

Please make cheques payable to ‘The Frozen Ark Project’ and send to: Dr Ann Clarke, The Frozen Ark Project, The Frozen Ark Office, School of Biology, the University of Nottingham, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD, UK. If you wish to help us claim your tax back, please contact us about filling out a 'Gift Aid' form.

Donors from the United States

Donors can receive the same tax benefits donating to the Frozen Ark as they can to a US charity.

Our site in the USA is Friends of the University of Nottingham, America Inc., 7 Andony Lane, Rochester NY 14624. Dollar cheques should be made out to the University of Nottingham but please attach a note saying it is for The Frozen Ark Project. This site is registered with the United States IRS. You will get the same tax benefits as you would obtain by donating to a US charity.

We need samples too!
We ask those around the world with stored collections of DNA, tissue, somatic or stem cells from endangered animals that could be held on behalf of The Frozen Ark sample collection are asked to send data details for inclusion in the Frozen Ark database. Please contact us for further details.

Collecting samples for the Frozen Ark

Expeditions, individuals, or organisations wishing to collect tissue and DNA samples for the Frozen Ark should contact Frozen.Ark@nottingham.ac.uk in the first instance for advice about recommended methods of collecting and transporting samples. Arrangements can be made to borrow equipment from the Natural History Museum in London.

In zoos and aquaria, samples can be taken from animals when they are undergoing veterinary treatment and from animals that have recently died. These samples could include male and female gametes, surplus animals such as tadpoles, tissues, feathers, hairs, body fluids, buccal smears, umbilical cord and placental tissue.

We are very keen that the collection of samples becomes a recognised 'ex situ activity' for the world's zoos and aquaria and is included as one of the conservation activities of the World Association of Zoos and Aquarias. We believe this would also be a major force for the successful distribution and use of gametes for conservation breeding programmes.

If you wish to collaborate in any other way with the Frozen Ark team, please email Frozen.Ark@nottingham.ac.uk.

Thank you so much for your donations,

The Frozen Ark Team
