We are saddened to report the news that Frozen Ark Director Prof Mike Bruford died on Thursday 13th April 2023. Mike was a friend as well as an enthusiastic and energetic leader of the Frozen Ark's work and we will miss him enormously.

Mike agreed to step in as Interim Director of the Frozen Ark during a period of real challenge for the charity. He brought with him impeccable credentials as a conservation geneticist, along with an encyclopaedic knowledge of an incredible network of colleagues from academia, government and the zoo communities. Mike had the ability to bring together people from this wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives, recognising and appreciating what each person contributed to the team. He was both effective (and persuasive!) in helping others to share in his vision of the Frozen Ark, as a force for bringing wildlife conservation-minded people together. We will miss Mike very much - it was a privilege to work with him.
